200 Injured, 100 arrested: Clashes mark EC siege programme

The opposition leaders and activists yesterday took to the streets in the city and elsewhere in the country to lay siege around the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka and election offices at divisional and district headquarters but failed as police intervened.

Over 200 Injured in “Dhaka Siege” Violence in Bangladesh

More than 200 people were injured, 10 by bullet, in clashes between demonstrators and law-enforcers in different districts in Bangladesh as the opposition staged `Dhaka Siege’ program in the capital on Sunday.

The injured were include Awami League leader Major General (rtd) Shafiullah, Journalists and law enforcers as opposition activists locked in sporadic clashes with policemen, torched vehicles and snapped road and train communication links during the program in Bangladesh.

Remove CEC or feel the heat of Dhaka Siege: Abdul Jalil

Reiterating their demand for removal of the partisan Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice MA Aziz by immediately summoning the Supreme Judicial Council, Awami League General Secretary Abdul Jalil MP has warned that otherwise Dhaka City will be isolated from the rest of the country through their Dhaka Siege Program scheduled for June 11.
